Intro call + posture assessment

Let’s look at why you feel the way you feel.

55 minutes on Zoom with me, Kevin. You tell me what’s been going on, I watch how you stand and move, live, and we decide together whether working with me makes sense.

Book your intro call + posture assessment

55 minutes, live on Zoom. I do the assessment myself.

Recording is your choice.

You’ll see the price when you choose a time.

Is this for you?

This is probably for you if:

  • You’ve been hurting for a while, maybe years. You’ve tried a lot (stretching, strength work, PT, chiro, massage, injections), and some of it helped for a bit.
  • You train or play a sport, and the same spot keeps breaking down.
  • You want to understand the why, not just get handed a list of exercises.
  • You’re up for doing a few simple positions on your own. A lot of it is lying on the floor or the couch. It’s not a HIIT workout.
  • You’re fine on Zoom. I do all my work online.

It probably isn’t for you if:

  • You want a diagnosis. I’m not a doctor, and I don’t diagnose. If you need to know what’s going on medically, a doctor is the right first stop.
  • You want someone to work on you. It’s nice to have touch, of course. But my work is teaching you what to do yourself.
  • You want something quick. This is steady, methodical work, and I won’t promise you a timeline.

Please see a doctor first

A few things need a doctor before we do any movement work, and some need one right now.

Go to the ER or call 911 now if you have:

  • new weakness, tingling or numbness in both legs, or leg weakness that’s getting worse
  • numbness around your groin, bottom or inner thighs
  • new trouble with your bladder or bowels, like not being able to pee, leaking or losing control
  • new changes in sexual function, along with back pain
  • back or neck pain after a recent fall or accident
  • chest pain, or pain in your arm, jaw or shoulder with chest pressure, shortness of breath, sweating or nausea
  • a sudden, severe headache, the worst you’ve ever had
  • neck pain with sudden dizziness, double vision, slurred speech, trouble swallowing, a drooping face or loss of balance
  • a hot, swollen, painful calf along with shortness of breath or chest pain

See a doctor before you book if you have back or neck pain with:

  • a fever or chills, or feeling generally unwell
  • weight loss you can’t explain
  • pain at night that doesn’t ease at all, whatever position you’re in
  • severe pain that started suddenly, or is getting worse quickly
  • a lump or swelling in your back, or your back changing shape
  • pain that’s worse when you sneeze, cough or go to the bathroom
  • pain between your shoulder blades, rather than in your lower back
  • pins and needles, weakness or a cold feeling down an arm
  • a history of cancer, osteoporosis, long-term steroid use, a weakened immune system or IV drug use
  • pain that isn’t getting better after a few weeks, or is stopping your day-to-day life, and nobody has looked at it

Please see a doctor today if you have a hot, red, swollen joint, or a hot, swollen, painful calf. A calf like that can be a clot.

If anything on the “see a doctor” list came on suddenly or is getting worse quickly, please see a doctor today.

Pregnant, recently had surgery, or under 18? Please get your doctor’s OK first, and if you’re under 18, a parent’s or guardian’s OK too.

If a doctor has already checked something on the “see a doctor” list and said movement is okay, you’re welcome to book. I’ll ask about it on the call.

I’m not saying something is wrong. It’s just not mine to rule out. Once you’ve been checked, the call will still be here.

If you’re having thoughts of ending your life, please call or text 988 (US) now, or 911 if you’re in immediate danger.

What happens on the call

Before we talk

After you book, you’ll get an email with the Zoom link and how to set up. To make the assessment useful, have these ready:

  • shorts and a fitted top, so I can see where your joints sit
  • bare feet
  • about 10 feet of open space
  • a sturdy chair or a wall within reach, for balance
  • your phone or laptop propped up at hip height, with your whole body in the frame

That’s it. No equipment needed. Come ready to show me how you actually stand.

Recording is your choice. When you book, you answer two questions, yes or no: may I record our calls (video and audio), and may I use those recordings privately to improve my work and train my tools (including AI)? Saying no to either doesn’t change your booking or your coaching. Email me any time to change either answer.

Here’s how the hour usually goes.

  1. Hello, and the honest part

We check your camera and sound, and I tell you who I am and what I do. I’m a movement coach, not a doctor or a physical therapist, and I don’t diagnose. If anything you tell me sounds like it needs a doctor, I’ll say so, and that comes first.

  2. Your story

Where you feel it, when it shows up, how long it’s been going on, and what you’d like to get back to. Then a few questions to fill the gaps: old injuries, what you’ve tried, what a normal day looks like for your body. I want the details. They’re usually where the clues are.

  3. A few quick safety questions, before you stand up

Just yes or no. I ask everybody, and most people say no to all of them. If one is a yes, we talk about whether a doctor should check it first.

  4. The posture assessment, live

Three simple things: standing, standing on one leg with that chair or wall right next to you, and bending forward only as far as feels okay. If anything hurts more than usual, stop and tell me. I read each one live, and you see what I see as I see it: which side is doing more, where your weight is sitting, and what looks like it’s working too hard. I take a few photos of you on screen as we go.

  5. What I see, in plain words

I show you a few of those photos, explain what we’re looking at, and ask you some questions to reflect on it. I find the spot that hurts is often doing extra work for somewhere else, so I’ll show you where I think that extra work might be coming from. It’s my read on how you’re moving, not a diagnosis. On the call it’s a quick look. When we start working together, we go through your photos in detail.

  6. Your questions, and what’s next

If I think I can help, I’ll walk you through what working together looks like and what it costs. If I don’t think I’m the right person, I’ll tell you that too, and where I’d look instead. You don’t have to decide on the call.

55 minutes, live on Zoom. I do the assessment myself.

What you’ll leave with

  1. A clear picture of how you stand and move, side to side and front to back.
  2. My honest read on what’s working too hard and what isn’t doing its share, and why that might be connected to where you feel it.
  3. A straight answer on whether I think I can help, and what working together would involve, price included.

You won’t leave with a diagnosis or a promise. I can’t honestly give you either.

“Just like I felt in that first appointment with my mentor… I watch this light bulb go off in people’s heads, like, ‘Of course.’”

Kevin, on The Ashlyn Show

After the call

If you want to start:
I’ll email you the next steps. Coaching is one-on-one over Zoom, and I’ll walk you through length and price on the call. You’ll get positions to do between sessions, most of them on the floor or the couch.
If you want to think about it:
Take your time. You don’t have to decide on the call.
If it’s not a fit:
I’ll tell you, and where I’d look instead.
The goal:
I hope one day you won’t need me.

Hey y’all, I’m Kevin.

In September 2017, I was teaching a fitness class when I felt a horribly familiar feeling. My back seized up right after I tried to pick up a 5 lb weight. Then I went out to my car, and my disc ruptured. My legs didn’t work at all, and I had to be carried back into a car.

If your legs suddenly go weak or numb, or your bladder or bowels change, that’s an emergency. Go to the ER.

For years, I just really didn’t understand why my body was doing the things it was doing. Then in June 2020, I saw a drawing of a skeleton on Instagram. It looked like me. It looked like how I felt. The guy who posted it ended up becoming my mentor. At my first appointment, he took a few photos of me and showed me what my body was doing. It was like a light bulb went off. My back was the symptom of the problem. It was overworking for other areas of my body that weren’t working.

Now I ski about 30 days a year. Do I still have occasional pain? Yeah. When I do, I can confront it with compassion. That’s my body, on my timeline. Everybody’s body is gonna be unique to them.

I’m a movement coach with a kinesiology degree. I’m not a doctor or a physical therapist, and I don’t diagnose or treat medical conditions. What I do is assess how your body is moving and standing, explain what I see, and coach you through positions and exercises. If anything I see or hear needs a medical opinion, I’ll tell you, and that comes first.

Questions people ask

What does the intro call cost?
It’s paid when you book. You’ll see the price when you choose a time, before you pay. What working together looks like and what it costs, I’ll walk you through on the call.
Are you going to try to sell me something?
If I think I can help, I’ll tell you how working together works and what it costs. That’s part of the hour. If it’s not a fit, I’ll say so. No pressure and no obligation.
Is the call recorded?
Only if you say yes. When you book, you answer two questions, yes or no: may I record our calls (video and audio), and may I use those recordings privately to improve my work and train my tools (including AI)? Saying no to either doesn’t change your booking or your coaching. Email me any time to change either answer.
Can you really assess me over Zoom?
Yes. All my work is on Zoom. It’s nice to have touch, of course. But what I’m looking at is how you stand and move, and a camera shows me that, live and in photos. The goal is that you have the tool in your toolbox to take with you wherever you go.
What do I need?
Shorts and a fitted top, bare feet, about 10 feet of space, a sturdy chair or a wall within reach for balance, and a phone or laptop propped at hip height with your whole body in frame. No equipment needed.
Do I need to send photos first?
No. The call includes a live posture assessment, and the photos we look at, I take during the call.
Are you a physical therapist? Is this medical care?
No. I’m a movement coach with a kinesiology degree. I don’t diagnose or treat medical conditions. I assess how you move and stand, explain what I see, and coach you through positions. If something needs a doctor, I’ll tell you, and that comes first.
I have an MRI or a diagnosis. Should I mention it?
Yes, tell me what you’ve been told. I won’t tell you what your scan means; your doctor can. What I can show you is how you’re moving.
Do I have to stop training, or stop seeing my doctor, PT or chiro?
No. Keep seeing whoever you’re seeing. It’s okay to go to the doctor. I’d rather you keep doing what you’re doing and we add one thing at a time. Let’s keep it methodical, so we know what’s making you feel better and what’s not.
How long does coaching last, and what does it cost?
What working together looks like, how long it usually runs and what it costs, I’ll walk you through on the call, so you can decide with all of it in front of you.
What time zone are you in?
I’m in Portland, Oregon (Pacific time). The booking page shows times in your own time zone, and you can change it.
Can I reschedule?
Yes. Use the link in your confirmation email to reschedule or cancel.
Not ready yet?
That’s okay. Start with the Couch Reset, a free floor routine I’ll email to you: calves on the couch, back on the floor, three arm positions, and a page to write down what you noticed. When you’re ready, the intro call will still be here. Get the guide by email
